Key Responsibilities:
The candidate will
be involved in the formulation, application, testing and evaluation of coatings
for the Department of Defense market and general industrial finishes. Develops
new products to meet customer requirements. May, on occasion, be asked to
travel for the Company.
Through appropriate
testing and data analysis, develops new coatings, processes, and methods for
solution of technical problems utilizing latest technology - i.e., ambient and
forced cure systems utilizing solvent-based, high-solids, and water-borne
chemistries. Confers with scientists and engineers regarding research, and
prepares technical papers and reports. Conduct research to develop and improve
products. Provides technical assistance to other areas regarding research and
development efforts and manufacturing process support.
Prepares
standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests.
Enters chemical formulations into computer database. Performs all
assigned duties safely according to established laboratory procedures and
safety practices. Maintains highest standards of housekeeping in immediate work
area and throughout the laboratory.
Tasks
Performed:
·Serves in a support role for client interface for
functional issues to address specific project tasks as assigned.
·Identifies potential issues and assists with
determining corrective action(s).
·Protects company sensitive information, and
maintains awareness and supports core business standards.
·Provides advice and guidance within area(s) of
expertise to ensure proper procedures are followed.
Essential
Functions:
·Applies knowledge to complete assignments.
·Adheres to and meets cost, budget and schedule of
project(s).
·Works under supervision; exercises moderate
independence in completion of assignments; work is varied and involves some
analysis and interpretation as applicable to changing situations.
·Situations outside parameters referred to
management for clarification.
·Demonstrates innovativeness on specified
assignments.
Minimum
Physical Requirements:
·Regularly or frequently talking, hearing,
touching, grasping, standing, walking, reaching with hands/arms and performing
repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement.
·Light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
·Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less,
three-dimensional vision, ability to identify and distinguish colors, and
ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus to review test
results, perform testing of CSTRS, install strain gage, view PC screen, read
technical manuals, calibration of machines and equipment, adjust equipment, use
measuring devices, microscopes, etc.
Desired Job
Experience:
BA/BS degree in
Chemistry or a related Science, plus a minimum of 2 years of directly related
experience or equivalent (as based on company practice or contract
requirements).
Other Qualifications:
Must be able to perform all standard laboratory operations for the preparation of a coating, for the determination of all constants, for the preparation and evaluation of a coating film.Must be able to formulate a coating, make formula changes and ladder studies to improve processing changes and modify the properties of the coating from commercially available raw materials.Must be familiar with the operation of all types of dispersion mills and the proper flow rates, charges, paste viscosities and the composition for the optimum operation of these mills.Must be able to prepare data sheets, written reports and plant formulas.Must be able to make customer contact for technical support under technical and/or marketing supervision.Must be able to prepare work-off formulas for raw materials and paint and to do batch trouble-shooting in the plant.Familiar with spray applications.Ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate Government Security Clearance.
