Job Description

Director, Geneva Lake Environmental Agency (GLEA). Located on the campus of George Williams College on the shore of Geneva Lake in Williams Bay in southeastern Wisconsin, GLEA is less than an hour from Milwaukee and two hours from Chicago. For more than 45 years, GLEA has managed Geneva Lake and its 13,045-acre watershed located in southern Walworth County. The Agency was established as a shared unit of the local governments of the Towns of Linn and Walworth, the Villages of Fontana and Williams Bay and the City of Lake Geneva.

Geneva Lake is one of Wisconsin most unique lakes. It is the state’s second deepest natural lake at 140 ft., is 5,262 acres in size, and is a recreational hub for southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. It has two villages, one city and two townships on its shoreline. The population of the area is around 15,000 which grows significantly during the summer tourist season. Protecting and maintaining Geneva Lake’s desirable water quality is vital to sustaining the area’s $5.7 billion equalized value and supporting its billion-dollar tourist industry.

The Agency is seeking a Director with a working knowledge of freshwater science, and the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders while being responsible for the implementation of all policies and directives of the GLEA Board of Directors. The Director oversees the day-to-day operation of the office and its lake management efforts, directing a small staff of both permanent and seasonal employees; secures funding, prepares budgets, and makes recommendations concerning resource protection practices and policies. The Director reports to a Board representing the five Geneva Lake communities. The new Director will replace a retiring 40-year incumbent.

The ideal candidate will possess:

· B.A. in biology, ecology, freshwater science, engineering, public administration or any equivalent combination of training and experience that brings the knowledge, abilities, skills, and leadership to the management of the organization. An understanding of lake management and water policies is preferred, but not required.

· Five - seven years of administrative, supervisory, and professional work history commensurate with a director-level role.

· Some senior administrative experience with a government agency, municipality, non-profit or environmental conservancy institution.

· Have a passion for the environment, clean water, and meticulous attention to detail.

The Director is appointed by the Agency’s oversight Board. Starting salary range: $65,000 – 70,000 +/- DOQ

Candidates should apply by August 20, 2021 (open until filled) with resume, cover letter and contact information for three work-related references to www.GovHRjobs.com to the attention of Lee Szymborski, Senior Vice President, GovHR USA, 630 Dundee Road, #225, Northbrook, IL 60062.
