  Job Title: Research Assistant I
Department: OHSU and PVAMC Division of Infectious Diseases

SUMMARY

Research Assistant I for Apicomplexan Pathogen Drug Target Discovery:

Our research is focused on drug discovery for the apicomplexan pathogens, Toxoplasma, Plasmodium and Babesia. We use molecular biology and biochemistry techniques to identify new drug targets and develop new assays for testing the efficacy of experimental compounds.

The scope of the Research Assistant I position includes:

Performing drug efficacy experiments to determine the efficacy of experimental compounds and explore their underlying mechanisms. Beyond testing drug efficacy, the position would offer opportunities to genetically manipulate T. gondii to answer basic biological questions and to create new research tools based on the applicant's interest.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of lab experience

Applicants do not need to have prior experience in molecular parasitology, but familiarity with basic laboratory methods in molecular biology and biochemistry will be beneficial.


The joined campuses of the Portland VA Medical center and Oregon Health and Sciences University provide abundant opportunities for academic seminars and scientific collaboration with other molecular parasitology labs.
