Job Description

 

Position Summary: As a Senior Application Engineer – Master CNC Programmer you will be a key problem-solver, leading the development and improvement of manufacturing processes, optimizing CNC machining operations, utilize CAD and CAM software to develop CNC machine tool programming that incorporates detailed instructions and documentation for machine tool operators, and ensuring high-quality parts through expertise in tooling, fixturing, programming, and process optimization.

 Process Development & Optimization: 

·       Analyze engineering drawings and models to develop efficient, repeatable machining processes for complex, high-precision components in an NPI environment

·       Develop and implement new or improved CNC machining processes, including tooling, fixturing, and programming.

·       Optimize existing processes to reduce cycle times, improve part quality, and minimize costs.

·       Capable of setting up and operating CNC machines when required to validate new programs and machining processes.

 

CNC Programming, Execution & Technical Expertise: 

·       Develop highly optimized, multi-axis CNC programs for complex components using Mastercam and CAMWorks.

·       Optimize programs for speed, tool life, and accuracy while maintaining compliance with stringent quality standards.

·       Possess a strong understanding of CNC machining processes, materials, and tooling.

·       Stay current with the latest advancements in CNC technology and manufacturing techniques.

·       Development of G-code CNC programs for CNC mills and lathes using CAMWorks.

·       Expertise in creating 3D models using SolidWorks and expertise in Mastercam.

·       Accurately interpret engineering drawings, determine optimal machining methods meeting required part tolerances, fit, and finish.

·       CNC Simulation software, G-Code simulation such as vericut in addition to tool path simulation a plus.

 

Tooling & Fixturing Expertise:

·       Select and specify appropriate cutting tools, work holding devices, and other tooling for specific machining operations.

·       Develop accurate and efficient fixtures for complicated part production when required.

·       Design and implement custom tooling when necessary.

 

Cost Estimation & Quoting:

·       Develop accurate cost estimates for CNC machining operations.

·       Assist with the development of quotes for potential customers.

 

Process Improvement & Problem Solving: 

·       Identify and address process bottlenecks and quality issues.

·       Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall shop performance.

·       Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior CNC programmers and machinists to enhance team capabilities.

·       Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and other team members to resolve technical issues.

·       Assist in developing training programs for machinists and engineers on best practices in CNC programming and process optimization.

·       Basic Knowledge in Statistical Process Control.

·       Strong competency in Metrology.

Salary Range: $110,000-$120,000 depending on experience

Education and Experience

·        Technical degree preferred or equivalent experience.

·       7+ years’ experience programming experience with 3, 4, 5-axis 3D contour mill and 4-axis turn, machining centers, etc..

·       Experience machining exotic metals preferred (I.e., Inconel, Titanium, etc.). Aerospace and medical experience a plus.

·       Proficient in use of SolidWorks, MS Office, and PC literate. Expertise in FANUC, SINUMERICK, SIMENS, MAZATROL program controls. Expertise in MASTERCAM , SOLIDWORKS.

·       Machining experience with 3, 4, 5 -axis mills and 4-axis lathes with live tooling, machining work centers, etc..

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

·        Able to read blueprints and working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

·       Must be competent in shop math, including algebra and trigonometry.

·       Ability to effectively and clearly present and express written and verbal information to individuals and/or groups required.

·       Work closely with machinists, engineers, and other team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

·       Communicate technical information clearly and effectively to all stakeholders.
