Job Description

Our Western Timberlands Marketing group has an opening for a Yard Manager at the Olympia Export Yard, located in Olympia, WA. As a Yard Manager, you will be responsible for the management of operations associated with the log export facility, including management of safety, environmental stewardship, quality, production, costs and leadership of the salaried and union hourly workforce. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Washington Export Yards Lead.

Key Functions

  • Lead in establishing strong safety expectations and results, and inspiring safety as a cultural value
  • Drive business improvements and continued Operational Excellence focus across the business
  • Ensure compliance with company, state and federal regulations, including safety, environmental, labor, etc.
  • Work with site leadership team and human resource manager to maintain a climate of inclusion while achieving work systems improvements, labor/management relationships, and people/leadership development improvements
  • Work together with other functional managers, ensuring that various organizational initiatives fit smoothly together without distracting from the yard operation goals
  • Oversee financial responsibilities of the site; encourage continued operational excellence focus, plan and maintain a financial budget, and manage capital projects
  • Work with Export Sales Team to support growth and diversification of export markets

What We Offer

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $94,977 - $142,465 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 10% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours

Job Requirements
Bachelors degree in Forestry, Land Management, Business, Manufacturing or related field OR equivalent in experience
At least 8 years of work experience in operations or marketing
Highly motivated, creative and self-directed team player
Possess strong leadership, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills
Strong business acumen, with solid ability and experience in business negotiations
Demonstrated ability to role model and promote a safe work environment
Demonstrated knowledge of supply chain and transportation systems, their application, their cost structure and rate determination methods
Ability to use Microsoft Office software such as Word and Excel
Valid driver's license with the ability to safely operate a vehicle
Ability to safely walk in and around yard operations and heavy equipment
